Olley Watson and Chris Knowles headlined at the MSA Premier League on the 29th May. Olley matched with Marc Sergeant from Studio 2000 lost on points. Unable to throw kicks due to a early clash on his right shin, he resorted to a boxing strategy which unfortunately was not enough to win over the judges decision. Chris was matched with Glenn Crossthwaite from Mike Tobins Gym for the UKMF British Title. Chris won through his opponent being unable to continue after the 3rd round and is now the UKMF British Champion.

Abdul Abdelsalam wins the UKMF 60kg Junior British Title. After only 8 days notice, Abdul put on the performance of his career giving his opponent, Ricky Sewell, 2 standing 8 counts and winning by unanimous points. Also matched on the day was Claire Bowler, but due to the current situation with flights is currently stuck in Bangkok and was unable to fight for an area title.

Chris Grypski had his work cut out fighting for the Super Heavyweight ISKA Southern Area Title this weekend. This was an action packed fight while it lasted. Both fighters went toe to toe from the opening bell, Chris landing good leg kicks against the taller heavier opponent, but towards the end of the round both fighters attempted left hooks with Chris coming off worse with a standing 8 count. In the second round, Chris’ opponent stepped up the pace trying to clinch and knee with good success, which towards the end of the 2nd round the corner retired Chris.
Salah Abdelsalam, who has just turned 18 years old, took his first c class fight over 3 x 2 minutes rounds. Despite a big crowd behind the local fighter, Salah started well in the first round using combinations to get close to the taller opponent. His opponent tried to use kicks to try and keep Salah. In the 2nd round Salah came out strong trying to stop the fight but his opponent used his reach to keep out of trouble. Salah just kept up the pressure without the need to get to involved winning the fight on pts over the 3 rounds.

There are plenty more interclubs over the next couple of weeks lad, Singto next weekend and LMTA weekend after, speak to your coach if you want to get out again so we can get you matched

Due to illness Anthony Ferguson was unable to compete, which ultimately ended up in his bout being cancelled. Claire Bowler was matched against Lisa Smith from the Benfleet Muay Thai Gym. Claire has previously fought Lisa and lost at the Circus Tavern. This was not to be a repeat situation for Claire, with strong boxing skills and a step up to B class rules suiting her style she won by unanimous points.

The Minotaur “Gentle Destroyer” was scheduled to be back in action this weekend at the Ceasar Palace, Streatham, London against Chris Rawlings. Unfortunately Chris is seriously ill and is unable to compete. He is on the mend and will be back in action soon, we will keep you posted.

WPMF European Title 06/02/10

Chris Knowles fought Brice Guidon, trained by the famous Jerome le Banner, for the WPMF European Title in France. Deep into the 1st round, the fight was going well for Chris, but after a heavy exchange of elbows, Chris came out worst and the referee stopped the bout after a nasty cut which after the fight required 20 stitches. Reports confirm Chris was dominating the bout until this point.

Singto Interclub 06/02/10

Jo Sinclair and Adam Livings from our Hitchin Gym fought at the Singto Interclub in Cambridge today. Jo’s opponent a more experienced fighter gave it all and stopped Jo by TKO in the 1st round. Adam Livings, 14, had 2 bouts on the day performing well in both. The paramedic on scene check out Jo Sinclair who is fine and looking forward to getting back in the gym.
